The Importance of Integrity in Leadership

By now, many people are quite familiar with the Volkswagen scandal that has caused their CEO to step down and may eventually cause the company to lose billions of dollars. That's right. Billions. 

What is the scandal over? Well, it's over the question of emissions. Without going in to too much detail, what the company as a whole did was essentially to deceive and lie to the public about the rate of emissions their cars give off. In short, they made the public believe that their cars are a lot more safe for the environment than what is true.

What has happened as a result of this scandal? Well, the least that has happened is the CEO stepping down. More importantly to all of this, what has happened is the public has lost faith in the company and has turned against it. 

This is what happens when a company or leader tramples over the issue of integrity. What we must remember as business owners and leaders is that integrity is vital to public perception as well as acceptance.
